The Renault Clio is a classic small car with French virtues: chic, compact and fast with good engines. It replaced the second generation of the Renault 5 (“R5”) in 1990. So it has actually been on the market for a proud 30 years. And with success: By the time the fifth generation was relaunched in 2019, the little Frenchman had already sold around 15 million copies.
In February 2020, the Clio V even ousted the VW Golf from the top of the registration statistics for the first time with 24,914 new registrations. Even if VW was struggling with delivery problems and the resulting production stops at the time due to Corona, first place in the registration statistics is at least a symbolic milestone.
This success of the Clio in the fifth generation shows how present the little Frenchman has now arrived in the small car segment. Sporty and lively, with a modern interior and economical engines, it stands up to competitors such as the VW Polo, Opel Corsa and Ford Fiesta.
The Renault Clio is available with petrol engines from 67 hp to 130 hp, as a diesel with 85 hp or 115 hp, as a gas variant in combination with a petrol engine with 100 hp and, most recently, as a hybrid with a system output of 140 hp. but a very small battery.
Motor oil is a vital part of your Renault Clio's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key jobs is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts which helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.
Regularly checking and changing your Renault Clio engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.
Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.
So which engine oil should you buy for your Renault Clio? Whether you are topping up your Renault Clio oil or doing a full change of your Renault Clio's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.
