Check Oil Type, Grade And Viscosity For Mazda 6

In the Mazda 6, engine oil usually needs to be changed every 20,000 km or once a year. However, there are also exceptions: For example, the Mazda 6 2.3 MPS Turbo needs an oil change after 15,000 km or once a year.

Even with all the advancements in technology, engine oil still gathers contaminants that could harm your engine. That's because oil serves a critical purpose in providing a smooth lubricating film between the pistons and cylinders and acts as a link between the combustion chamber and oil circuit. As residues form during combustion, some of them may enter the engine oil via this pathway, causing increased contamination. But by sticking to regular oil changes, you can safeguard your engine from potential damage caused by heavily contaminated oil.
Here's a tutorial on how to change the engine oil in a Mazda 6:
1) Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and safety equipment.2) Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the oil.
3) Use a jack to raise the car and place cardboard underneath to catch any spills. Have a catch bowl and spanner ready.
4) Locate the sump plug and use a spanner to loosen it until it turns freely by hand. Hold the catch bowl close to the sump and unscrew the plug with your fingers, being careful not to let hot oil spray in your face.
5) Leave the bowl in place and remove the oil cap from the cam cover.
6) Find the oil filter, which is usually located on the side of the engine. Unscrew the filter by hand or with a tool, being mindful that it is full of oil.
7) Take the new filter and apply fresh oil to its mating surface and seal. Screw the new filter back onto the threaded boss by hand.
8) Check under the car for any oil still dribbling out. If there is, wait until it stops.
9) Replace the sump plug with its new washer, being careful not to over-tighten it.
10) Fill the engine with fresh oil using a funnel. Pause when you have poured around three liters to let the oil circulate. Lower the car and pour the old oil into your container.
11) Check the oil level on the dipstick and top up as necessary, referring to the markings on the side of the bottle. Replace the oil cap.
12) Start the engine and check for any obvious leaks.
13) Stop the engine and check the oil level again. Repeat over the next few days to ensure it is correct.
