Economical 1.0-litre engines or the more spirited petrol and diesel engines – if you want to maintain the efficiency and performance of your Stonic in everyday use for a long time, you should definitely follow the oil change intervals specified by Kia. In this article, we examined how often Kia's compact SUV needs to be serviced for the different engine variants. In addition, we will give you a price estimate for the oil change in your region, based on the original manufacturer data.

In order to be able to specifically quantify the savings potential when changing the Kia oil, we had a Stonic built in 2018 with the 1.6-litre diesel engine compete in a workshop comparison in Magdeburg. Since the Korean SUV was still brand new on the market at the time of testing, the workshops had apparently not yet included any oil change offers in the system. Our tip: In such cases, use the contact details provided for the workshops with Kia service to personally inquire about the oil change costs for your Stonic.
Depending on the construction phase and engine equipment, there may be differences in how often Kia sends a Stonic for an oil change. Kia has the premiere models of the YB type with the 1.0-litre petrol engine brought in for an oil change every 12 months or every 15,000 km.
How many litres of lubricant and what types of oil are needed for the service varies depending on the engine and displacement of the Stonic. The SUVs with the 1.6-litre diesel, for example, need around 5.3 litres of ACEA C2 or C3 engine oil for replacement. We have summarised data on oil quantities and viscosity classes, as well as the types of oil with official manufacturer approval for the different variants of the Kia SUV, in the following tables.
We have listed all the Kia Stonic models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Kia Stonic.

If the gears in your transmission can no longer be shifted smoothly, then the transmission oil needs to be changed at the latest. The reduced shifting accuracy is caused by fine wear-related metal dust that accumulates in the gearbox over time. These sharp-edged metal shavings act like an abrasive on the precision parts in the gearbox and increase wear - your gearbox breaks more quickly. For this reason, you should have the transmission oil replaced in good time, as transmission damage is one of the most expensive repairs on your Kia Stonic.
