BMW Z4 Oil Type Finder

The BMW Z4 (released autumn 2002) is a roadster series from BMW. The BMW Z4 was also available as a coupé between spring 2006 and spring 2009 (release period of the second generation).

The Z4 is available in the following series:

• 1st generation BMW Z4 E85 (2002-2008) available as station wagon coupe and roadster
• 2nd generation BMW Z4 E89 (2009-2016) available as a roadster
• 3rd generation BMW Z4 G29 (since 2018) available as a roadster

Flexible inspection intervals apply both to the first two BMW Z4 series, which were developed by the Bavarians alone, and to the current BMW Z4 series, which was created in cooperation with Toyota.

The on-board computer uses various parameters to calculate when maintenance should be carried out and what major work needs to be done in addition to the basic service.

However, according to the service plan, the inspection is due at the latest after 30,000 km or, if this mileage has not been reached before then, after 24 months. The car's inspection display shows the driver the time for maintenance in good time so that no service is overlooked.

More detailed information on when the inspection is due and under what circumstances it becomes necessary early can be found in the operating instructions and in the service booklet of the BMW Z4.

The fourth generation of the BMW Z series started in 2002. The Z4 sports car now received a glass rear window and other details for increased stability. The electrically assisted power steering minimized fuel consumption. With the facelift in 2006, the Z4 was upgraded in a modern and stylish way and came onto the market as the Z4 Coupé at the same time. In 2009, the Z4 entered its second generation and was already the fifth generation of the BMW Z series. For the sports car, there was now a folding hardtop and a basic engine variant with 150 kW (204 hp) and the six-speed manual transmission as standard. Standard equipment such as ABS, Cornering Brake Control and ESP and other technical elements increase safety. Several facelifts followed until the end of production in 2016. The BMW Z4 Roadster G29 has been on the market since 2018. In addition to attractive equipment lines, it has an expressive exterior and interior design.

What is the approved oil for a BMW Z4?

The engines of the BMW Z4 should only be driven with engine oil that has a manufacturer's approval at all times - for example, a 5W30 oil with BMW Longlife 04 approval is suitable for many units.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your BMW Z4? Whether you are topping up your BMW Z4 oil or doing a full change of your BMW Z4's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.

We have listed all the BMW Z4 models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for an BMW Z4.
